That being said, I can't hear China and the U.S. in the same paragraph without remembering something. And Lord knows we've been hearing a lot about them lately!
When I was in 6th grade, I had a crush on the class geek. All year I liked him, and my friends teased me. More than 20 years later I found out he'd had a crush on me all 6th grade too. He ended up losing his geekness and grew up to be a very nice looking man, happily married with kids, running a successful business in SoCal - so my friends were wrong! But I always knew that, naturally!
Anyway, at the end of 6th grade, my crush gave me a note, knowing I wouldn't see him all summer. I wasn't bright enough at the time to realize it was a love note. Feelings can be hard to communicate when you're in 6th grade! But, all these years later, I have never forgotten his words to me, and cherish them still.
"Yours 'til Russia cooks Turkey in Greece and serves it on China to the Hungary U.S.A."
Cute, huh?
He ended his note with this - and so will I.
"A friend is like a nugget of gold, hard to get and hard to hold. But when you find one that is true, chance not the old for the new."
